Virtual High School

In the fall of 2005, students at RV gained access to over 150 courses nationwide by way of the Virtual High School. Virtual High School is an online course offering now available to RV sophomores, junior and seniors.

Virtual High School (VHS), based in Massachusetts, is a non-profit consortium of schools that offers full-semester online courses to students all over the world. VHS has been in existence since 1996 and has over 40 schools participating nationwide.

The school board approved the school as a VHS site in Spring 2005, allowing students access to courses not typically offered on the high school level. Examples of course offerings include History of Photography, Pre-AP Statistics, International Business, Basic Mandarin: Chinese Language and Culture and Screenwriting Fundamentals.

VHS courses are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Priority will be given to juniors and seniors. VHS courses will not be available to make up a failed course, nor will the courses be available over the summer. Prior to enrolling in the VHS, students must meet with their guidance counselor and take the VHS questionnaire.

Ms. Gilmore serves as the school’s site coordinator.  To find out more about VHS, visit www.govhs.org or contact Ms. Gilmore at dgilmore@rvrhs.com.
