Under revised NJ State statutes, 15 credits are required for graduation including laboratory biology (effective with the 2008-2009 9th grade class); chemistry, environmental science or physics (effective with the 2010-2011 9th grade class); and an additional lab/inquiry-based science (effective with the 2012-2013 9th grade class).

The RV Science Department course offerings include Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, and Physics at both the College Prep and College & Carreer Prep levels. Elective sciences include Virtual Astronomy, Meteorology, Forensic Science, Discovery Science, and Anatomy and Physiology. Advanced placement courses, eligible for 8 credits of college credit through BCC are available in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. These courses do not fulfill the science requirement for graduation.

The State Department of Education requires that all students enrolled in a biology course in any year regardless of grade level take the Biology End-of-Course Competency Assessments in May 2010.
